Dear President Trump:
Since April of 2023, I have led a bipartisan investigation into previously undisclosed and unknown Nazi-linked accounts at Credit Suisse and its predecessor banks, which are now under the ownership of UBS Group AG. This investigation, and other similar investigations into the Nazis and the Holocaust, have uncovered hundreds of undisclosed Nazi-linked accounts, the
theft of money and gold, and the looting of treasured artwork. This information is critical to create a full accounting of the Nazi regime.
Past investigations have tried to bring justice to the Jewish people and the victims of the Holocaust, but the work continues to this day. Let me briefly recount the background of this investigation; it is part of a historical review of Nazi-linked assets and related accounts concealed at Credit Suisse after the end of World War II, some as recent as 2020. In response to evidence from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organization, Credit Suisse, and then UBS, agreed to conduct an internal investigation in 2021 into its past servicing of Nazis. Former U.S. Inspector General Mr. Neil Barofsky was appointed as the Independent Ombudsperson to comprehensively investigate Credit Suisse’s archives with a mandate that no stone should be left unturned.
