As Jews around the world prepare to usher in the High Holidays beginning tonight with Rosh Hashanah, the world around us is inturmoil.
Yes, without a doubt, a film posted on You Tube defamed and denigrated Islam and all Muslims. But what we are seeing as a resultshould be deeply troubling to all of us irrespective of religion. In the history of the world, Judaism has been denigrated and insulted many times. In the 20th century, the mostsacred symbol of our heritage, the Torah, which contains the world of G-d transmitted to Moses on Mount Sinai, was set ablaze by the Nazis in hundreds of communities in Europe. Manytimes, pictures showed Nazis cheering as the Torah was engulfed in flames 5,000 Torahs were burned. This has occurred in other anti-Semitic incidents in the 21st centuryas well, but Jews around the world, did not react by storming embassies and attacking innocent people who had nothing to do with the perpetrators.
This is a time in history for Muslim spiritual leaders around the world to reassert their authority by pointing out that mobrule is an unacceptable behavior and most certainly does not bring any glory to G-d.
