INTERPOL Suspect in Buenos Aires Jewish Center Excused from Interrogation under Argentine-Iranian ‘Truth Committee’ Arrangement

AFP has reported that Iranian Defense Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, (pictured), accused by Argentine authorities as complicit in the 1994Buenos Aires Jewish Center bombing, will not be subject to interrogation under the terms of the recently announced Argentine-Iranian ‘Truth Committee’ arrangement (http://www.afp.com/es/node/824692).
The Simon Wiesenthal Center stated, “This deal breaker obliges Argentina to immediately annul this shameful farce.”

Only last week, Argentine Foreign Minister, Héctor Timerman, had assured families of the victims that Vahidi would indeed be among thoseto be interrogated.

“Today’s announcement confirms our January 27 claim that this Argentine-Iranian bilateral agreement is an exercise in whitewash forIranian-sponsored terrorism. It will only encourage future acts of further AMIA-style violence across Latin America by Hezbollah sleepers remotely controlled by Tehran. Argentina cannot buyimmunity by accommodation,” stressed Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“Tehran has always denied its implication in the AMIA atrocity, and will never cooperate to find the truth and achieve justice. Was theVahidi exemption prompted by threat or promise of immunity?” suggested Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.

“As the Argentine Senate prepares to debate this so-called ‘Memorandum of Understanding’, we urge the legislators to feel the pain ofthe AMIA families, twice victimized:
— In 1994 by Iranian sponsored terror
— In 2013 by Iranian mockery.

Senators, call for the immediate annulment of this outrageous deal!” concluded Samuels and Widder.

Al conocerse la información emitida por la agencia AFP según la cual el ministro de Defensa de Irán, Ahmad Vahidi, acusado por lajusticia argentina por su complicidad en el ataque contra la AMIA, no sería interrogado dentro de lostérminos del recientemente anunciado acuerdo argentino-iraní (http://www.afp.com/es/node/824692), el Centro Simon Wiesenthal señaló que “esta ruptura de los términos obliga a que Argentina anule esta farsa vergonzosa de manerainmediata”.

Apenas la semana pasada, el Canciller argentino, Héctor Timerman, había asegurado a familiares de las víctimas que Vahidi se contaríaentre quienes serían interrogados.

“Este anuncio confirma nuestro señalamiento del 27 de enero: el acuerdo bilateral argentino-iraní facilita el encubrimiento para elterrorismo patrocinado por Irán. Ofrecerá un estímulo para otras acciones al estilo de lo ocurrido en la AMIA por parte de células dormidas de Hezbollah controladas desde Teherán a lolargo de Latinoamérica. Argentina no puede adquirir inmunidad por estos medios”, enfatizó el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro SimonWiesenthal.

“Teherán negó en todo momento su involucramiento en el ataque contra la AMIA y jamás cooperará para alcanzar la verdad y la justicia.¿Por qué razón tendría Argentina que aceptar que Vahidi fuera exceptuado?”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.

“En momentos en que el Senado argentino se prepara para debatir el así llamado ‘Memorandum de Entendimiento’, urgimos a que losmiembros del Poder Legislativo compartan el dolor de los familiares, doblemente agredidos: en 1994, por el terror patrocinado por Irán; en 2013 por esta burla iraní. Convocamos a lossenadores a que anulen de manera inmediata este acuerdo escandaloso”, concluyeron Samuels y Widder.
