“Bangkok is a major international tourist destination. There is no excuse in 2018, for any establishment in any civilized country to turn Hitler into a motif for a hotel room. We expect that Thaiauthorities will move swiftly to either close the establishment or demand that such a room be redesigned immediately,” declared Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global SocialAction for the SWC.
Rabbi Cooper, a frequent visitor to Asia, including Thailand, added, “This is far from the first incident where Nazis and Nazism have been celebrated or highlighted in Thailand. We have broughtour Courage To Remember exhibition to Bangkok and participated in various UN-sponsored programs in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia, designed to educate people about history’s worst atrocity—theNazi Holocaust, during which 6 million European Jews were systematically murdered by Nazi Germany and its collaborators.”
“This outrage does not only impact the families of the victims and desecrate their memory, such locations as this hotel can quickly become magnets for today’s Nazis and racists. Failure by theauthorities to intervene will stain Thailand’s image. We expect action to be taken immediately or we will consider further action,” Rabbi Cooper concluded.
