E-mail: info@cswlatinoamerica.org Buenos Aires, 24 May 2013 The Simon Wiesenthal Center expressed outrage that among the candidates approved by the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei to stand inthe upcoming Iranian Presidential elections, are twoimplicated in the Buenos Aires AMIA Jewish Center bombing (July 18, 1994), which killed 85 people and injured hundreds.
Mohsen Rezai and Ali Akbar Velayati, both accused by Argentine Prosecutor Alberto Nisman of complicity in the atrocity will run in theJune 14 election. This follows current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s approval of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Argentina and Iran’s Foreign Ministers for a so-called “TruthCommission” to review Nisman’s judicial inquiries. The Memorandum had been approved by the Argentine Parliament, while its Iranian counterpart tellingly delayed its consideration, leadingAhmadinejad to “approve” it without Parliamentary support.
“The choice of two presidential candidates implicated in the greatest diaspora pogrom since the Holocaust defines a continuation ofIranian anti-Semitic and nuclear policy. The Argentine-Iranian accord is now rendered irrelevant, indeed, it is a farce and we urge Argentine Foreign Minister, Héctor Timerman, to annulit forthwith,” argued Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
“As it is clear that Iran has no interest in transparency and true cooperation, we call for speeding up judicial procedures againstthe accused and those responsible for almost two decades of cover up. There can be no pretexts for further delays,” added Sergio Widder, SWC Latin American Director.
“Iran’s announcement of two Presidential candidacies charged as accessories to the Jewish Community Center blast are a mockery of thememory of the victims and of Argentina,” concluded the Center’s officials.

Centro Wiesenthal: “La selección de dos sospechosos por el ataque contra la AMIA como candidatos presidenciales define unacontinuidad en la política antisemita iraní y en su programa nuclear”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal calificó como un escándalo el anuncio de la selección de dos de los sospechosos por el ataque terroristacontra la AMIA (que provocó la muerte de 85 personas y cientos de heridos) para las próximas elecciones presidenciales en Irán, según lo aprobado por el Líder Supremo, AyatollahKhamenei.
Mohsen Rezai y Ali Akbar Velayati, ambos acusados por el fiscal argentino Alberto Nisman por su presunta complicidad en el ataqueterrorista, se presentarán en las elecciones previstas para 14 de junio. Esto ocurre a la vez que el actual presidente, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, aprueba el Memorando de Entendimiento firmadopor los cancilleres de Argentina e Irán para crear una “Comisión de la Verdad” para revisar lo realizado judicialmente por Nisman. El Memorando fue aprobado por el Congreso argentino, entanto que su contraparte iraní, de manera elocuente, demoró su consideración y forzó a Ahmadinejad a “aprobarlo” sin apoyo parlamentario.
“La selección de dos candidatos presidenciales implicados en el mayor pogromo de la diáspora desde el Holocausto define unacontinuidad en la política antisemita iraní y en su programa nuclear. El acuerdo argentino-iraní se ha vuelto irrelevante; de hecho, es una farsa, y urgimos al Canciller argentino, HéctorTimerman, a que lo anule de inmediato”, manifestó el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal.
“En tanto es evidente que Irán no tiene interés en la transparencia ni en una verdadera cooperación, hacemos un llamamiento para quese avance contra los sospechosos y contra quienes están acusados de casi dos décadas de encubrimiento. No puede haber pretextos para nuevas dilaciones”, agregó SergioWidder.
“El anuncio iraní de dos candidaturas presidenciales de acusados como cómplices del ataque contra la AMIA constituye una burla haciala memoria de las víctimas y hacia la República Argentina”, concluyeron los directivos del Centro.
