SWC URGES IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION OF HIZBOLLAH LEADER'S CLAIM OF MONEY TRANSFERS FROM ARGENTINA
The Simon Wiesenthal Center is urging Argentine Secretary of Security, Luis Tibiletti, to investigate reports that moneytransfers from Argentina are reaching the terrorist Hizbollah group.
Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations of the SWC) and Sergio Widder (Latin American Representative) raised thealarm following a report from Baalbek, Lebanon, in the daily, La Nacion, that Hizbollah leader Muafak Jammal asserted that his group receives money from Argentina.
“The possibility that money is being sent to Hizbollah from Argentina would not only violate Argentina’s commitments oninternational cooperation against terrorism, but it would also be an offense to the memory of the
victims of Argentine citizens murdered in the attacks against the Israeli Embassy and the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires, since there are strong allegations that Hizbollahparticipated in those terrorist attacks,” said Samuels y Widder.
“We therefore urge Argentina authorities to immediately investigate these claims by Hizbollah and if so, all individuals involved in such transfers be identified and prosecuted according to the anti-terrorist legislation,” they concluded.
A copy of the Center’s letter to Tibiletti was also submitted to Steven Monblatt, the Executive Secretary of the Inter AmericanCommittee Against Terrorism of the Organization of American States .

EL CENTRO WIESENTHAL SOLICITA AL GOBIERNO ARGENTINO QUE INVESTIGUE SI HAY ENVÍO DE DINERO A HEZBOLLAH DESDE ESE PAÍS
El Centro Wiesenthal solicitó al Secretario de Seguridad Interior de Argentina, Luis Tibiletti, que se investigue si desde esepaís se envía dinero a la organización terrorista Hezbollah.
Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal) y Sergio Widder (Representante para AméricaLatina) transmitieron en una carta al Secretario de Seguridad argentino la preocupación del Centro ante declaraciones formuladas en Baalbek, Líbano, al diario La Nación del 18/08/06 porel dirigente de Hezbollah Muafak Jammal, quien afirmó según que desde reciben dinero desde Argentina.
"La posibilidad de que desde Argentina se esté contribuyendo al financiamiento de Hezbollah no sólo entraría en colisión con loscompromisos asumidos por Argentina en materia de cooperación internacional contra el terrorismo, sino que sería también una afrenta a la memoria de decenas de argentinos asesinados en losatentados contra la Embajada de Israel en Buenos Aires y contra la AMIA, dado que hay fuertes sospechas acerca de la participación de Hezbollah en ambos ataques terroristas”, señalaron Samuels yWidder.
“Conociendo la sensibilidad del gobierno argentino con respecto a los atentados sufridos en Buenos Aires en la década pasada, yla voluntad manifestada reiteradamente de avanzar en el esclarecimiento de los mismos, urgimos a que se investigue si efectivamente hubo envío de fondos desde Argentina para Hezbollah, y que encaso que así hubiera sido se identifique a quienes estuvieran involucrados y se los procese de acuerdo a la legislación antiterrorista vigente”, concluyeron.
El Centro hizo llegar una copia de la carta al Secretario Ejecutivo del Comité Interamericano contra el Terrorismo (CICTE) de laOEA, Steven Monblatt.
