| UPS CLARIFIES INFORMATION REGARDING SHIPMENTS TO COMMUNITIES IN ISRAEL After consultations with Simon Wiesenthal Center officials, United Parcel Service (UPS) clarified erroneousinformation regarding service to Jewish communities located in the Golan Heights, the West Bank and some areas of the southern Negev. The Center approached UPS officials afterreceiving numerous complaints from members who were told by UPS representatives that service did not extend to those areas. In a statement to the Center, John Flick, Director of UPS International Public Relations, said that incorrectinformation regrettably was given and that the situation would be resolved. The statement continued:
| Through O.P.S.I., UPS covers 99% of the population in Israel outside theWest Bank, except for a few remote areas in the Golan Heights and the Negev Desert, where it would be cost prohibitive to provide service. Only remote areas in the West Bankwith very low population density are not covered on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides. In the West Bank, UPS's service reaches over 80% of the population and coversapproximately 60% of the territory, including the Gush EtZion area. All packages coming from abroad are delivered into all areas of Yehudaand Shomron. This includes Gush EtZion. Customers residing in this area DO NOT have to go to Jerusalem to pick up their shipments.
