Wiesenthal Center Protests Brazilian Labour Party for Denying Israel Right to Self-Defence

In a letter to Ricardo Berzoini and Valter Pomar (President and Secretary for International Relations of the PT, respectively), Dr. Shimon Samuels (Director for International Relations ofthe Wiesenthal Center) and Sergio Widder (the Center’s Latin American Representative) stated that “it is ironic that the PT, a party known for its democratic traditions, which carried theBrazilian Presidency citing the rule of law, is now slandering a fellow democracy”.

The letter continued: “The PT release is outrageous, but not entirely surprising, given its cooperation agreement with the Syrian Baath Party. We recall that under the Baath regime, Syriaprovided refuge to Alois Brunner, Adolf Eichmann’s second in command in the implementation of the ‘Final Solution’. That is indeed complicity with Nazism”.
“If the PT really cherishes peace, then its best contribution would be to condemn Hamas antisemitism and to protest that terrorist organization’s rain of rockets against Israeli civilians,as well as its abuse of Palestinian civilians as human”, added Samuels.
“Hamas aims at wiping Israel off the map, and quotes a Czarist antisemitic forgery, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, in its Charter. The PT is thus demonstrating solidarity withantisemitism and terrorism”, Widder concluded.

La carta continúa: “El comunicado del PT resulta escandaloso, pero no del todo sorprendente, dado su acuerdo de cooperación con el Partido Baath Arabe Socialista de Siria. Recordemos quebajo el régimen del Baath, Siria dio refugio al criminal nazi Alois Brunner, el lugarteniente de Adolf Eichmann en la implementación de la “Solución Final”. Eso sí es complicidad con elnazismo”.

“Si realmente el PT anhela la paz, entonces su mejor contribución sería condenar el antisemitismo de Hamas y protestar por la lluvia de cohetes que dispara esa organización contra civilesisraelíes, así como por su abuso de civiles palestinos al utilizarlos como escudos humanos”, agregó Samuels.

“Hamas tiene como propósito borrar del mapa al Estado de Israel, y cita en su Carta Orgánica un panfleto antisemita de la Rusia zarista, los Protocolos de los Sabios de Sion. El PT está asídemostrando solidaridad con el antisemitismo y el terrorismo”, concluyó Widder.
