Wiesenthal Center Condemns Presence of Radical Activist Among VIPs Representing Argentina at Closure of Mid-Term Parliamentary Elections

The Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned the presence of radical activist Luis D’Elia among the “VIPs” representing the government at the closure of the mid-term Parliamentary elections inArgentina.

“D’Elia is a public supporter of both the Iranian theocratic regime and Hizbollah. His presence on the podium among the highestofficials begs the question: Why? Is the Argentine government sending a message of a pro-Iran policy shift? This would imply the close of the AMIA file, legitimize Hizbollah just as ithas been designated as terrorist by the European Union and place Buenos Aires in alliance with the murderous regime Damascus,” stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for InternationalRelations of the Wiesenthal Center.

“Two months ago we denounced an event held in Buenos Aires, ‘Al Quds Day’, where calls were made for the destruction of Israel andsuspects in the AMIA Jewish Center bombing were praised. D’Elia was one of the keynote speakers”, noted Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVX0Lyje_g).

The Center’s officials recalled the presence at that event of Family Agriculture Undersecretary, Emilio Pérsico.

“Pérsico then, D’Elía now! Such an embrace can only tarnish Argentina and tragically encourage more AMIA – style violence on itssoil”, concluded Samuels and Widder.

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal condenó la presencia de Luis D’Elia entre los “VIP” que integraron la tribuna de dirigentes del gobiernoargentino durante el acto posterior al cierre de las elecciones parlamentarias del domingo 27 de octubre.

“D’Elia es un defensor del régimen teocrático iraní y del grupo terrorista Hezbollah. Su presencia en el podio entre los másimportantes funcionarios del gobierno nacional provoca la pregunta: ¿Por qué? ¿Quiere el gobierno argentino dar una señal acerca de un giro político pro-iraní? Esto significaría el cierrede la causa AMIA, la legitimación de Hezbollah precisamente cuando ha sido designada como una organización terrorista por la Unión Europea y el posicionamiento de Buenos Aires como unaliado del régimen asesino de Damasco”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.

“Hace dos meses denunciamos un acto que tuvo lugar en Buenos Aires, la conmemoración del ‘Día de Al Quds’, donde se abogó por ladestrucción del Estado de Israel y se reivindicó a sospechosos de haber participado en el ataque terrorista contra la AMIA. Los directivos del Centro recordaron que en ese evento participó también el Subsecretario de Agricultura Familiar y líder delMovimiento Evita, Emilio Pérsico.
“Pérsico entonces, D’Elía ahora. Semejantes alianzas sólo pueden ensombrecer a Argentina y estimular nuevos hechos de violencia”,concluyeron Samuels y Widder.
