Demand Congress Act to protect Jewish students from moreanti-Semitic attacks and Intimidation on Campus

As we commemorate the 79th anniversary ofKristallnacht, Nazi Germany's “Night of Broken Glass” which setthe stage for the Nazi Holocaust and the destruction of European Jewry, we witnessedthe failure of the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee to endorse the“Anti-Semitism Awareness Act”…

“If this legislation does not move forward, we will pursue other avenues to pass theAnti-Semitism Awareness Act. Our students and community deserve equal protection under the law” – Rabbi Abraham Cooper, testifying in Congress on the Anti-Semitism AwarenessAct

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the SWC's Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action urged the U.S. House of RepresentativesJudiciary Committee to approve and send the “Anti-Semitism Awareness Act” (ASAA) for a full vote ofthe House of Representatives during his testimony on Capitol Hill. (See testimony here)

“The major leadership of the American community, from AIPAC and Federations to the Wiesenthal Center,American Jewish Committee, and the ADL are united in urging Congress to adopt the State Department’s definition of anti-Semitism. This would provide the US Education Department,University, and other campus officials the context to take action on behalf of our students who have suffered anti-Semitic attacks, intimidation and bullying.”

Rabbi Cooper added, “It is telling the Department of Education’s TitleVI program has not adjudicated a single case involving anti-Semitism. This is an intolerable and dangerous situation.”
