‘“House of Islam’ stand exposes hypocrisy of Tehran’s so-called AMIA ‘truth’ commission and reveals Iran’s true agenda forLatin America”

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre called on Mr. Gustavo Canevaro, President of the Fundación El Libro (which organizes the Buenos Aires BookFair) to publicly condemn the “Casa del Islam” (‘House of Islam’) stand (Yellow pavilion, #1900) at the 39th Buenos Aires Book Fair (April 25 – May 13), for its promotion of anti-Semiticconspiracy theories.

Among the books displayed, the stand highlighted “Irán, el país que Estados Unidos quiere destruir - Retratourgente de un ‘condenado a muerte’” (“Iran, the country which the U.S. wants to destroy – an urgent portrait of a ‘convicted to be executed’”), published in 2008 by the Eastern CulturalFoundation, Elhame Shargh Editors, addressed in a P.O Box in Qom, Islamic Republic of Iran. Its author is a Uruguayan journalist, Julio César Martínez, a.k.a. “Juma”, who moved to Iran in2006 and died in 2011.

The cover of the book shows the Statue of Liberty with the face of George W. Bush. The raised arm of the Statue of Liberty holds aMenorah and, in the other hand, it holds a shield with a Star of David. On page 31, there is a photo of the World Trade Center under attack and the explanation “New York’s Twin Towers,the most tragic and repulsive staging by the CIA and the MOSSAD to put the world down to their feet.”

“Our Centre has monitored the Frankfurt and Casablanca Book Fairs for the past nine years to identify abuses by exhibitors bent uponfomenting hate and violence. The ‘House of Islam’ stand at the Buenos Aires Book Fair exposes the hypocrisy of Tehran’s so-called ‘truth commission’ offer to Argentina as a cover-up forits complicity in the AMIA Jewish Center bombing. It also reveals Iran’s true agenda for Latin America,” stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the SimonWiesenthal Center.

“The ‘House of Islam’ abuses freedom of expression to promote conspiracy theories about an alleged Jewish control over the UnitedStates and thus incite anti-Semitic hatred. We call for a condemnation by the Book Fair organizers and a warning that Iran be banned from participation in the 2014 Fair,” declared SergioWidder.

The Center shared this information with the Frankfurt Book Fair – the largest in the industry – to prevent similar Iranian abuse atits October 2013 event.

El Centro Wiesenthal solicita al presidente de la Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires que condene públicamente la difusión deteorías conspirativas antisemitas por parte de un expositor vinculado a Irán

El stand de la ‘Casa del Islam’ expone la hipocresía de la así llamada ‘comisión de la verdad’ propuesta por Teherán para el caso AMIAy revela la verdadera agenda de Irán para América Latina

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal solicitó a Gustavo Canevaro, Presidente de la Fundación El Libro (institución que organiza la Feria delLibro de Buenos Aires) que condenara públicamente la difusión de material antisemita en el stand “Casa del Islam” (pabellón Amarillo, n° 1900) de la 39ª Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires(25 de abril al 13 de mayo).

Entre las publicaciones ofrecidas allí, se cuenta el libro “Irán, el país que Estados Unidos quiere destruir (Retrato urgente de un‘condenado a muerte’)”, publicado en 2008 por la Fundación Cultural Oriente, Ediciones Elhame Shargh, con dirección postal en una casilla de correo de Qom, República Islámica de Irán. Suautor Julio César Martínez (conocido también como “Juma”), es presentado como un periodista uruguayo radicado en Irán desde 2006. “Juma” falleció en 2011.

La cubierta del libro está ilustrada con una imagen de la Estatua de la Libertad que tiene el rostro del expresidente estadounidenseGeorge W. Bush y sostiene en un brazo en alto una Menorah (candelabro de siete brazos, símbolo del pueblo judío) y en la otra un escudo con una Estrella de David. En su página 31, seexhibe una foto del ataque contra el World Trade Center de Nueva York y el siguiente epígrafe” “Las Torres Gemelas de New York, el más trágico y repudiable montaje de la CIA y el MOSSADpara poner el mundo a sus pies”.

“Nuestro Centro monitorea las Ferias del Libro de Frankfurt y de Casablanca desde hace nueve años, con el objeto de identificar abusospor parte de los expositores orientados a fomentar el odio y la violencia. El stand de la ‘Casa del Islam’ en la Feria del Libro de Buenos Aires expone la hipocresía de la propuesta porparte de Teherán de la así llamada ‘comisión de la verdad’, en realidad una cobertura para su complicidad en el ataque contra la AMIA. También revela la verdadera agenda de Irán paraAmérica Latina”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.

“La ‘Casa del Islam’ se ampara en la libertad de expresión para promover teorías conspirativas acerca del supuesto control judío sobrelos Estados Unidos y así incitar al odio antisemita. Formulamos un llamamiento para que los organizadores de la Feria del Libro condenen este abuso y alerten que si se persiste con talesmateriales se impedirá su participación en la edición de la Feria en 2014”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.

El Centro compartió esta información con la Feria del Libro de Frankfurt – la más grande de la industria editorial – para prevenirabusos similares por parte de Irán en su edición de octubre de 2013.
