SWC: Hamas Strives to Expand its War Against the Jews: Authorities Have So Far Thwarted Terrorist Attacks in Europe

The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) commends the vigilant efforts of German, Dutch and Danish authorities in their recentoperations that led to the arrest of individuals suspected of planning attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe. These arrests have brought to light the disturbing reality of extremist threatsthat continue to challenge our collective security and peace.

Recent reports confirm the detention of four members of the Islamist militant group Hamas in Germany and the Netherlands, suspectedof plotting attacks against Jewish targets. This is a clear demonstration of the insidious reach of Hamas and the persistent danger it poses not only in the Middle East but also within Europeanborders.

In a separate but equally concerning development, authorities in Germany and Denmark foiled a major attack planned against Jewishinstitutions. The seriousness of this threat cannot be overstated and is a harrowing reminder of the constant vigilance required to protect Jewish communities from such heinous acts of hatred andviolence.

“The SWC is deeply troubled by these developments as they demonstrate unequivocally the fact that Jewish life in Europe isunder serious threat. We strongly urge governments and international agencies to intensify their efforts to dismantle networks that support or facilitate such terrorist activities,” saysRabbi Abraham Cooper, Vice-Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“It is imperative to recognize, acknowledge and address the dangers posed by groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, which have hada presence on European soil for many years and often operate under the cloak of charities and mosques. The recent foiled attacks are a testament to the persistent and evolving nature ofthese threats,” says Daniel Schuster, Senior Representative Europe of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
