Wiesenthal Center Commends Argentine Steps to Transparency in Re-Examining the 1994 AMIA Jewish Center Bombing

Upon accession, the new government immediately took measures to nullify the Argentine-Iranian Memorandum on the 1994 AMIA Jewish Centrebombing.

Today, the last day of the Court calendar before recess, a Federal Prosecutor called for former Foreign Minister Hector Timerman to beinvestigated following a leaked telephone conversation in which he acknowledged that the AMIA atrocity was committed by Iran and, yet while knowing that, he still negotiated the Memorandum withthem.

The Prosecutor also urged a reopening of the file of AMIA investigating Prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, who was found dead in suspiciouscircumstances.

"The Wiesenthal Centre has been involved in the AMIA case since the atrocity and commends the new government for its steps towardstransparency in reexamining Iranian complicity", stated Dr. Ariel Gelblung, the Center's Latin American Representative.

Tras asumir, el nuevo gobierno argentino inmediatamente tomó medidas para anular el memorando con Iran sobre la investigación del atentadocontra AMIA en 1994.
El día de hoy, último del calendario judicial antes del receso por vacaciones, un fiscal federal pidió que el ex canciller Héctor Timerman seainvestigado a raíz de una conversación telefónica filtrada en la que reconoció que la atrocidad de la AMIA fue cometida por Irán y, sin embargo, a sabiendas, negoció el memorandum conellos.
La Fiscalía también instó a la posibilidad de investigar si ello puede dar lugar a la reapertura de la denuncia del Fiscal de la causa AMIA,Alberto Nisman, quien fue encontrado muerto en circunstancias sospechosas.

"El Centro Wiesenthal ha estado involucrado en el caso AMIA desde que se produjo la atrocidad y felicita al nuevo gobierno por sus pasos haciatransparencia en reexaminar la complicidad de Irán", declaró el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Representante para América Latina del Centro
