AMIA Center Bombing In Buenos Aires, Argentina

On behalf of the 400,000 constituent families of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, I wish to express our solidarity with the community'sremembrance of the innocent victims - Jews and Gentile alike of the cowardly and murderous terrorist attack against the AMIA building in Buenos Aires sixteen years ago.

Tragically, the world has learned little from that brutal attack - ordered from Tehran and executed by Hezbollah. In 2010 the Iranian regime is bent on destroying Israel and is on theverge of acquiring nuclear weapons and Hezbollah has amassed 40,000 rockets which threaten the northern citizens of the Jewish state. The international community has also failed to act onthe Interpol indictments of the perpetrators of this terrorist outrage.

But the Jewish people are not silent and not powerless. Today, as we mourn the AMIA victims, we stand in solidarity with Argentinean Jewry and together express our support for a strongand safe Israel.

The AMIA bombing was an attack on the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA; Argentine Israelite Mutual Association) building in Buenos Aires on July 18, 1994, thatkilled 85 people and injured hundreds. It was Argentina's deadliest bombing. Argentina is home to a Jewish community of 200,000, the largest in Latin America.

July 16, 1994 - Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA) bombing.	The AMIA building after its reconstruction in 1999 is located exactly where the old building stood.
