“Latin America has been a sanctuary for World War II Nazis. A new generation sows hate against the Jews”
Buenos Aires
Today, the 2018 Report on Anti-Semitism in Argentina was officiallypresented, Its 20th year was prepared by the Center for Social Studies of the Delegation of Argentine Israelite Associations (DAIA).
It contains an analysis that arises from the complaints that are madethroughout the year before said organization, which politically represents the Argentine Jewish Community. During the past year, complaints of anti-Semitism grew by 107% compared to thoseregistered during 2017.
In turn, the report has different articles and essays, among which is aninvestigation of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, This shows among other findings for 61% of Argentine society, the 1994 terrorist attack against AMIA, carriedout by Hezbollah, which left 85 dead and more than 300 wounded was an attack on the Jewish community and also targeted Argentina.
Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the WiesenthalCenter argued that “the impunity enjoyed by Hezbollah and the Iranian ideologues for 25 years has been diminishing in Argentine society.... Justice requires an understanding that thetarget was not only the Jewish community but focussing also on national sovereignty and security...”
This has been the policy of current President Macri
(Drs. Jorge Knoblovits, DAIA´s President and Ariel Gelblung)
Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Center`s Latin American Representative, authored one ofthe chapters of the report, which highlights the task that the institution carries out from the dawn of the internet with its annual report on Digital Hate and Terrorism and the relevance ingetting social network providers to develop filters for hate messages. "We welcome the political will of the DAIA Argentine Jewish community and its alliance with the Wiesenthal Center onthis issue", concluded Gelblung.
