Brazilian President Inacio Lula Da Silva declared today in Ethiopia, “What is happening in the Gaza Strip with the Palestinianpeople did not happen at any historical moment, except when Hitler decided to kill the Jews.”
“It is not the first time since October 7th, that Lula has made high-sounding statements of solidarity with the Palestinians, butthis declaration goes beyond the pale,” charged Dr Ariel Gelblung, Simon Wiesenthal Center’s (SWC) Director for Latin America.
“Lula's statements are incompatible with Brazil's participation as an observer member of IHRA, whose internationally accepteddefinition of anti-Semitism includes comparing the Nazi regime to policies of Israel. It is outrageous that President Lula would desecrate the memory of the victims of the Nazis with thelegitimate attempt by Israel to dismantle the terrorist group Hamas, which mass murdered more Jews on October 7th than any day since the end of the Nazi Holocaust and WWII," Gelblungadded.
The SWC’s Associate Dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper, who is Director of Global Social Action for the Center added, “It is no secret thatLula is expanding ties with the murderous Iranian regime, which trained and funds Hamas. He recently permitted two Iranian warships to dock in Rio de Janeiro. Such rhetoric is music to the earsof the Holocaust-denying regime that seeks to destroy the Jewish state. We urge the US, Germany, and other democracies to denounce Lula’s incendiary words that will surely incite anti-Semitism inhis own country and beyond.”

El presidente brasileño, Inácio Lula Da Silva, declaró hoy en Etiopía: “Lo que está sucediendo en la Franja de Gaza con el pueblopalestino no ocurrió en ningún momento histórico, excepto cuando Hitler decidió matar a los judíos”.
“No es la primera vez desde el 7 de octubre que Lula hace declaraciones altisonantes de solidaridad con los palestinos, pero estadeclaración va más allá de lo aceptable”, acusó el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, Director para América Latina del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.
“Las declaraciones de Lula son incompatibles con la participación de Brasil como miembro observador de la IHRA, cuya definicióninternacionalmente aceptada de antisemitismo incluye comparar el régimen nazi con las políticas de Israel. Es indignante que el Presidente Lula profane la memoria de las víctimas de los nazis conel intento legítimo de Israel de desmantelar el grupo terrorista Hamás, que asesinó en masa a más judíos el 7 de octubre que cualquier otro día desde el fin del Holocausto nazi y la SegundaGuerra Mundial", añadió Gelblung.
El Decano Asociado y Director de Acción Social Global del CSW, el Rabino Abraham Cooper, añadió: “No es ningún secreto que Lula estáampliando sus vínculos con el régimen asesino iraní, que entrenó y financia a Hamás. Recientemente permitió que dos buques de guerra iraníes atracaran en Río de Janeiro. Semejante retórica esmúsica para los oídos del régimen que niega el Holocausto y busca destruir el Estado judío. Instamos a Estados Unidos, Alemania y otras democracias a denunciar las incendiarias palabras de Lulaque seguramente incitarán al antisemitismo en su propio país y más allá”.
