HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMEMORATION AT MUSEUM OF TOLERANCE

On Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., Holocaust survivors,diplomats, civic leaders, community activists and Wiesenthal Center officials will join together to honor the memory of the millions murdered in the Nazi Holocaust and to reflect on thelegacy of Simon Wiesenthal, the famed Nazi hunter and champion of human rights in this his centennial year.

Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean of the Center will speak on the dangers of present-day anti-Semitism and theworldwide surge in Holocaust denial, following a live update from the infamous Geneva Conference (Durban II) by Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean.

The program will also include a special tribute to the music of composers persecuted by the Nazis, featuring renownedconcert pianists Friederike Haufe and Volker Ahmels and the student winners of the Ostracized Music international competition in Schwerin, Germany.

Following the commemoration, the Museum will unveil a Holocaust sculpture by Mexican artist, Jose Sacal on exhibit atthe Museum of Tolerance in honor of Yom Hashoah. The bronze statue is part of a collection that Sacal created in remembrance of the Holocaust, denouncing intolerance, racialsegregation and anti-Semitism. Mounted on a special base, and when viewed at a certain angle, it forms the Star of David.
