Israeli Television Channel One (Kan 11) Launches Mini-Series On "Belated Justice Trials" Currently Being Conducted In Germany; Notes Assistance of Wiesenthal Center in Facilitating Justice

Jerusalem-Israeli television Channel One (Kan 11) launched an original mini-series on the "belated justice trials," being recently conducted in Germany against former death campand concentration camp operatives. To date, five such trials have taken place against guards and functionaries from Sobibor (Ivan Demjanjuk), Auschwitz (Oskar Groening and Reinhold Henning), andStutthof (Johannes Rebogen and Bruno Dey), all of whom were convicted, with the exception of Rehbogen, whose trial was suspended for health reasons.

The series includes information on the efforts of the Wiesenthal Center to assist the German prosecutors by finding survivors from the camps in which the defendants served, as well as individualswho lost first-degree relatives (parents, spouses, siblings or children) in those camps during the time in which the defendants served there.

At present, two additional trials are being conducted in Germany, one against Josef Schuetze, who served as an armed S.S. guard in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp for almost three years, andanother against Irmguard Fuerchner, who was the secretary of the commandant of the Stutthof concentration camp from June 1943-April 1945, during which time the Nazis used a gas chamber to massmurder Jewish inmates.

The three-part series aired Monday, 1/17, and again on Tuesday, 1/18, and Thursday, 1/20 during the channel's main evening news broadcast from 20:00 to 21:00.
