Statement from the Simon Wiesenthal Center on the Passing of Former Senator Joe Lieberman

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action Agenda for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, today issued thefollowing statement on the passing of Senator Joe Lieberman:

“The Simon Wiesenthal Center mourns the passing of former US Senator Joseph Lieberman.

Senator Lieberman was a great American, a proud and knowledgeable Jew, a passionate defender of Israel, and always agentleman and first-class mensch.

He was a leader who stood by his principles but always sought ways to find consensus and compromise with other people ofgood faith, whatever their political affiliation. Lieberman was exactly the kind of leader that this generation of American leaders should emulate. We will miss this gentle, great man, who madeAmerica a better place for all and who lived his life by the values of the Torah.”
