SWC Condolences on the Passing of Simone Veil

Simone Veil was the finest example of indomitable Holocaust survival. Deported from Paris to Auschwitz and liberated in Bergen-Belsen, orphaned, she was to become Minister in the French Government, President of the European Parliament, a champion for feminism and indefatigable in the battle againstHolocaust denial.

In 1990, Mme. Veil as its former President, awarded Shimon Samuels, on behalf of the Wiesenthal Centre, the Medal of the European Parliament. Today, the Centre works closely with her son,Pierre-Francois Veil, current President of Yad VaShem-France.

Our condolences to M. Veil and all the Veil family. Their loss has impoverished us all.
