SIMON WIESENTHAL CENTER: PRESIDENT OBAMA SHOULD RATCHET UP SANCTIONS AGAINST TEHRAN; STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITHIRANIAN PEOPLE
SWC: IRAN'S EXTRADITION REQUEST IS LATEST CYNICAL EFFORT TO DEFLECT INTERNATIONAL FOCUS ON TEHRAN'S CENTRAL ROLEIN AMIA TERRORIST CARNAGE The Iranian government has requested the extraditions of former Argentine Interior Minister Carlos Corach, former AMIAcase Judge Juan Jose Galeano, former Federal Prosecutors Eamon Mullen and Jose Barbaccia, and former Jewish community President Ruben Beraja. “We agree with the Argentine Foreign Affairs Ministry that this request by Iran is a retaliation for the warrants issuedby Argentina against former president Hashemi Rafsanjani and other Iranian officials who were implicated in the terrorist attack against AMIA,” said Shimon Samuels, Director forInternational Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. “Notwithstanding the fact that those five individuals required by Iran are currently under investigation forirregularities committed in the investigation of the AMIA case, Iran´s cynical request is part of a broader strategy aimed at blocking international action against Tehran for theircentral role in the terrorist carnage," added Sergio Widder, Latin American Representative of the SWC. "This latest move by the Iranians follows closely on the publication by Tehran regime of a report released in theIranian official news agency IRNA, which tries to disassociate that country from the terrorist attack. The Wiesenthal Center denounces this cynical disniformation campaign and calls onthe international Community to back the Argentine government's efforts to bring justice to the innocent victims of the AMIA terrorist outrage," Widder concluded. http://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nl/content2.asp?c=lsKWLbPJLnF&b=4441467&ct=4141821
