SWC Issues Statement Following Kanye West’s Suspension on Twitter

Human Rights NGO Commends Elon Musk for Taking Action Against anti-Semitism

LOS ANGELES –The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) applauds Elon Musk forthrowing Kanye West off of Twitter again in the wake of his latest anti-Semitic posts on the social media platform.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action at SWC, issued the following statement:

“We commend Elon Musk’s Twitter for throwing Kanye West off the powerful platform in the wake of his serial anti-Semitism. This is astep in the right direction but more needs to be done to stop social media companies from mainlining anti-Semitism bigotry and racism. We also take note that there has been another surge of hateon Twitter. This underscores the need for Musk to install clear, transparent rules to distinguish the red line between free speech and hate so that Twitter will no longer be an attractiveplatform for bigots. The SWC’s annual report card on digital terrorism and hate has given Twitter dismal grades over the years, well before Musk’s takeover, for allowing extremists to leveragetheir platform.”
