SWC: Statue to World War II Hungarian Anti-Semite Contradicts Recent Statements by Government Officials and International Holocaust Remembrance Role

"The proposed erection of a government funded statue to a World War II era anti-Semite and Nazi collaborator, Balint Homan (pictured) is directly in contradiction to Hungary's role as current Chair of the of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), said MarkWeitzman, SWC Director of Government Affairs. “It also is incompatible with the public statements by Minister Janos Lazar and State Secretary Szabolcs Takacs who called the Holocaust in Hungary,'An act of treason' and condemned anti-Semitism," Weitzman continued.

Weitzman, who chairs the IHRA's Committee on Anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial stressed, “Reports also indicate that a contributor to the notorious anti-Semitic, racist and Holocaust denyingwebsite, kuruc.info, is working as a high school teacher in Budapest. This needs to be immediately investigated and steps taken to ensure that hatemongers are not in a position where they can influence children. To ignore such situations mocks the statements coming from Hungary's current role as Chair of the IHRA.Actions more than words will demonstrate whether Hungary is truly committed to confronting and learning from its past.”
