Simon Wiesenthal Center Succeeds in Cancelling Conference on Jasenovac Concentration Camp With Participation of Revisionist Historians

Belgrade-The Simon Wiesenthal Center's Director for Eastern European Affairs Dr. Efraim Zuroff succeeded during his visit here latelast week to achieve the cancellation of a historical conference on the subject of the notorious Croatian concentration camp Jasenovac, to which revisionist historians had been invited toparticipate.

Zuroff learned of the conference at his meeting on Thursday with Dr. Dajan Ristic, director of the local Museum of Genocide Victims,and Bishop Dr. Jovan Culibrk, a leader of the museum's Executive Committee, both of whom were absolutely opposed to the conference.

Thus in his interview on Serbian television after the meeting, Zuroff called for the immediate cancellation of the plannedconference, which would seriously damage Serbia's reputation and harm its efforts to combat Croatian Holocaust distortion.

According to Zuroff:

"The speakers invited to the conference, none of whom is an expert in the history of Serbia during World War II, have adopted ahighly distorted version of the crimes committed at Jasenovac, which is based on inflated figures invented by Communist propaganda under Tito's regime. Such assertions undermine the currentSerbian efforts to create an accurate narrative of Nazi and Ustasha crimes."
