Wiesenthal Center Calls for Investigation Focusing on Argentine Accomplices to AMIA Bombing

The Simon Wiesenthal Center called for an investigation focusing on Argentine accomplices to AMIA bombing, following PublicProsecutor Alberto Nisman’s arrest warrants to be served against the following former officials: Argentine President Carlos Menem, his brother Munir Menem, Intelligence SecretaryHugo Anzorreguy, Deputy Intelligence Secretary Juan Carlos Anchézar, Judge Juan José Galeano, and Police Chief Jorge Palacios. These warrants are to be based on their allegedcomplicity in the protection and cover up of Alberto Kanoore Edul, who is suspected of similar complicity with the terrorists.
“Prosecutor Nisman has already made a very solid indictment against the role of Iran and Hizbollah in theAMIA attack. We believe there must be now an enhanced inquiry into the local Argentine connection,” said Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations for theWiesenthal Center.
“Kanoore Edul’s name appeared in the first moments after the attack, but that clue was promptly discardedwithout proper investigation. This inquiry should disclose the reason and the identity of those who precluded this complicity. Punishing those responsible for the attack is notonly a matter of justice, but also the best way to prevent future atrocities,” added Sergio Widder, Latin American Representative of the SWC.
