WIESENTHAL CENTER CALLS ON INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC AND LABOR GROUPS TO DROP BOYCOTT CAMPAIGNS AGAINST ISRAEL

WIESENTHAL CENTER CALLS ON INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC AND LABOR GROUPS TO DROP BOYCOTT CAMPAIGNS AGAINST ISRAEL

This year’s Nobel Chemistry Prize went to scientists in the U.S., Britain and Israel

The Simon Wiesenthal Center joins with the international community in applauding the Nobel Committee’s recognition of the crucial work of three scientists with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Center officials noted that the three scientists, two Americans and an Israeli, represented institutions in the United States, Great Britain and Israel and while the findings were a result ofindependent research, the scientists inspired each other in finding new way to benefit humanity. “We hope that today’s recognition by the Nobel Committee will inspire campaigners such asBritain’s University and College Union and Canada’s CUPE in the academic and medical fields to drop their calls for a universal boycott against Israel,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate deanof the Center.

“The Nobel Prize confirms that the work of these brilliant and committed scientists regardless of their national or religious affiliation will help make the world a better and safer place,”Cooper continued. “Onerous one-sided attacks against Israel whose doctors, scientists and researchers stand on the frontlines in this war against cancer and other diseases won’t help bringMideast peace a day closer but will only embolden groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and antisemites the world over,” he concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States. It is an NGO at international agenciesincluding the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino).
