Vilnius-The Simon Wiesenthal Center called upon Lithuanian authorities to ban the neo-Nazi marches (that took place February 16 inKaunas) and an upcoming March 11th in Vilnius to mark Lithuanian independence day. Since 2008, the Lithuanian authorities have led the efforts to promote the canard of historical equivalency between Communist andNazi crimes and have glorified various nationalists who actively participated in the persecution of Lithuanian Jewry during the Holocaust, all of which help explain the resurgence offascist ideology and extremist nationalism as manifested in the marches.
