The Simon Wiesenthal Center slammed the decision by a Federal Court that virtually closed chances to investigate the late AMIA SpecialProsecutor Alberto Nisman’s claims of an Argentine government cover up regarding the terrorist attack on the Buenos Aires Jewish Center. Nisman was found dead, with a bullet in his head, fourdays after his J’Accuse. The Court determined that the object of his allegations does not constitute a crime.
“Dismissing his charges without a minimal investigation continues the obfuscation leading to the Argentine-Iran Memorandum of Understanding.Iran’s intent was complete impunity. Argentina’s motive is shrouded in a mystery obstructing any chance of achieving justice,” stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations ofthe Wiesenthal Center.
“Since Nisman’s claims became known, public opinion had access to information that shows how Iran has worked to elude justice. We appeal for aprompt trial to expose any cover up as a first stage of an investigation. We also deplore attempts to rapidly close new accusations of cover up. Iranian-Argentine bargaining was revealed bywiretaps that indicate the tip of an enormous iceberg,” added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.

“Transcurridos dos meses, la justicia argentina no logró determinar aún si Nisman se suicidó o fue asesinado. Sin embargo, ha sido veloz parainvalidar su denuncia. Si el camino de la investigación judicial se cierra, formulamos un llamamiento para que el Congreso Nacional lleve adelante una investigación independiente para establecerla veracidad acerca del dictamen difundido por Nisman cuatro días antes de aparecer muerto y con un balazo en su cabeza”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal criticó la decisión de la Cámara Federal que determinó el virtual cierre de la denuncia formulada por el fallecidofiscal Alberto Nisman, quien había acusado al gobierno argentino de promover el encubrimiento del ataque terrorista contra la AMIA y fue encontrado muerto, con un balazo en su cabeza, cuatro díasdespués de formular su denuncia. El tribunal alegó que lo señalado por Nisman no constituía un delito.
“Desestimar la denuncia sin siquiera promover una mínima investigación enturbia más los motivos que llevaron al Memorándum de Entendimientoentre ambos países. La motivación iraní era impunidad absoluta. La argentina está cubierta por un velo de misterio que obstruye toda chance de alcanzar la justicia”, manifestó el Dr. ShimonSamuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Wiesenthal.
“A partir de la denuncia de Nisman, la opinión pública tuvo acceso a información que muestra cómo Irán ha trabajado para eludir la justicia.Apoyamos que se acelere la puesta en marcha del juicio sobre las sospechas de encubrimiento durante la primera etapa de la investigación del ataque contra la AMIA. Del mismo modo, deploramos elintento de cerrar rápidamente la nueva denuncia sobre encubrimiento. La trama que revelada por las escuchas telefónicas indican que hemos visto apenas la punta de un enorme iceberg”, agregóSergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro
