Wiesenthal Center Hails President Biden’s Signing of “No Hate Act” into Law

The Simon Wiesenthal Center hailed President Biden’s signing of the ‘Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act’’ into law today. Rabbi AbrahamCooper, Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action for the Wiesenthal Center, and Mark Weitzman, the Wiesenthal Center’s Director of Government Affairs said, “This law, named afterKhalid Jabara and Heather Heyer, two victims of hate crimes who would not have been counted in the FBI statistics previously is a necessary measure to strengthen monitoring and responding tohate. As Jewish Americans, who according to the FBI are the most targeted victims of religiously motivated hate crimes, we join with Asian-Americans who are currently facing a wave of risingattacks as well as Black Americans and other victims of hate crimes in welcoming the signing of this practical and symbolic measure into law."

The Wiesenthal Center had been one of the supporters of the measure as it passed through Congress.

Cooper and Weitzman also expressed their appreciation to Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and JerryMoran (R-KS) and Representatives Don Beyer (D-VA), Fred Upton (R-MI), Judy Chu (D-CA), and Vern Buchanan (R-FL) for their leadership in sponsoringthis important piece of legislation.
