Wiesenthal Center: Without Forensic Proof Of His Death, Case Of Dr. Aribert Heim (“Dr. Death” Of Mauthausen) Cannot Be Closed

WIESENTHAL CENTER: WITHOUT FORENSIC PROOF OF HIS DEATH, CASE OF DR. ARIBERT HEIM (“DR. DEATH” OF MAUTHAUSEN) CANNOT BE CLOSED

Jerusalem-The Simon Wiesenthal Center welcomes the initial progress announced today by the LKA (Landeskriminalamt Baden-Wurttemberg) police task force on the case of the Center’s mostwanted Nazi war criminal Dr. Aribert Heim, but cautioned that without conclusive forensic proof of his death, it is still not possible to close his case. In a statement issued here today bythe its chief Nazi-hunter, Israel director Dr. Efraim Zuroff, the Center made clear that while it agrees with the findings of the New York Times//ZDF report regarding Heim’s residence in Egyptfor many years, there still is no conclusive evidence of his death in Cairo in 1992.

According to Zuroff:
“Without the most advanced forensic examinations available to scientifically verify Heim’s identity, we cannot possibly conclusively confirm his death. There are still serious doubts about theversion of Heim’s demise presented by the New York Times and ZDF and we must therefore exercise extreme caution in assessing this information.”
