SWC Demands Authorities to Act Using Fullest Extend of the Law Following Vicious Attack Against Argentine Jewish Family

BUENOS AIRES and PARIS - An Argentine Jewish family, driving on vacation, was overtaken andstopped by another family car on the highway.

Apparently intercepted due to their Orthodox Jewish dress, they were verbally attacked with such language as "Shit Jews, get out of here." The family was then physically assaulted, victims including a baby and a 92-year-old woman.

The authorities of the Province of Córdoba indicated that the aggressors were quickly arrested.

“We demand that the Cordoba authorities not only apply the full weight of the law against the attackers, but also use theoccasion to train personnel, the police and the schools of the Province to understand the dangers of hate. This was, without question, an unprovoked attack on Jews, specifically as Jews, and thus activates the 'aggravating conditions' ofracism in Argentine Anti-Discrimination legislation, thus providing for the harshest penalties to be strictly enforced,” argued Drs. Shimon Samuels and Ariel Gelblung, Director forInternational Relations and Director for Latin America of the Wiesenthal Center.
