Following the 9 August primaries, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, and Latin American Representative Dr. Ariel Gelblung, addressed fourquestions to the six remaining Argentine Presidential candidates.
The Left Front outsider declined to comment.

The two front-runners for the 25 October next round are: the current Kirchner administration official, Daniel Scioli, and his opposition rival, Buenos Aires Mayor, Mauricio Macri. In third placeis a former Kirchner associate, Sergio Massa. The less realistic candidates, Margarita Stolbizer and Adolfo Rodriguez Saa, may be coopted into the next government.
The Center’s questionnaire sought these candidate’s thoughts on resolving the 1994 AMIA Jewish Centre bombing by pursuing the INTERPOL-identified Iranian suspects; the nullification of thecurrent government’s Memorandum of Understanding with Teheran regarding the AMIA investigation; containing burgeoning antisemitism and Holocaust denial; supporting the Center in its campaign toobtain UNESCO World Heritage status for Moises Ville, the first Jewish settlement in Argentina.
“Except for the guarded responses of Scioli – the government’s candidate – there was, in general a common commitment to take firmer measures to expose the truth behind the AMIA atrocity,” statedGelblung.
On the Iran Memorandum and the INTERPOL “red notice” arrest warrants, Scioli deferred these issues until the new government is in place. Macri and Massa relied on judicial settlement withoutpolitical intervention. Rodriguez Saa suggested a multilateral approach involving Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil. Stolbizer would refer the AMIA issue to the UN Security Council,there presentingthe attack as an act of Iranian aggression.
All four favoured maintaining the status quo with INTERPOL. All equally denounced antisemitism, while Scioli and Stolbizer would mandate Holocaust education in public schools.
Similarly, all were committed to state support for the Wiesenthal Centre’s objective for the Baron Hirsch first settlement,Moises Ville to receive UNESCO World Heritage status, as an example ofthe contribution of Jewish refugees to their host society.
“We hope to discuss these questions further with the President-Elect in late October, and especially the skeleton in the cupboard – increasing Iranian penetration and sponsorship of Hezbollahsleepers and Jihadist recruitment across the region – a subject raised by the AMIA bombing late Prosecutor, Alberto Nisman,” commented Samuels.

Después de las elecciones primarias del 9 de agosto, el Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, el Dr. Shimon Samuels, y el Representante para América Latina, Dr.Ariel Gelblung, abordaron con cuatro preguntas a los seis candidatos presidenciales argentinos.
El candidato del Frente de Izquierda se negó a responder.

Los dos principales candidatos para la siguiente ronda, el 25 de octubre son: el Gobernador de la mayor provincia argentina y funcionario de la actual administración Kirchner, Daniel Scoli, y surival de la oposición, el Jefe de Gobierno de la Capital, Buenos Aires, Mauricio Macri. En tercer lugar aparece un ex funcionario de Kirchner, Sergio Massa. Los candidatos con menos chances,Margarita Stolbizer y Adolfo Rodríguez Saá, podrían ser cooptados en el próximo gobierno.
El cuestionario del Centro indagó sobre la postura de estos candidatos en relación a la resolución de la causa del atentado de 1994 al Centro JudíoAMIA, sobre la persecución a los sospechosos iraníes por parte de INTERPOL ; la anulación del memorándum de entendimiento con Teherán en relación con la investigación de la AMIA; sobre lacontención del creciente antisemitismo y la negación del Holocausto; y si apoyarán al Centro en su campaña para obtener la condición de Patrimonio dela Humanidad de la UNESCO para Moises Ville, el primer asentamiento judío en la Argentina.
"A excepción de las respuestas formales de Scioli - candidatos del gobierno - hay, en general, un compromiso común para tomar medidas más firmes paraexponer la verdad detrás de la atrocidad de la AMIA", declaró Gelblung.
Sobre el Memorando con Irán y las alertas rojas de INTERPOL (órdenes de captura), Scioli difirió estas cuestiones hasta que el nuevo gobierno esté en su lugar. Macri y Massa esperan una soluciónjudicial sin intervención política. Rodríguez Saa sugirió un enfoque multilateral que involucra Venezuela, Bolivia y Brasil. Stolbizer propondría remitir la cuestión de la AMIA al Consejo deSeguridad de la ONU, presentando el ataque como un acto de agresión iraní a la Argentina.
Los cuatro favorecieron el mantenimiento del statu quo con la INTERPOL. Todos por igual condenaron al antisemitismo, mientras que Scioli y Stolbizer sostendrían la enseñanza del Holocausto en lasescuelas públicas.
Del mismo modo, todos están comprometidos con brindar apoyo estatal para el objetivo del Centro Wiesenthal sobre el primer asentamiento del BarónHirsch, Moises Ville, de otorgarle el estatus de Patrimonio de la Humanidad, como un ejemplo de la contribución de los refugiados judíos que allí la sociedad dió acogida.
"Esperamos discutir sobre estas cuestiones con el Presidente electo a finales de octubre, y sobre todo, el esqueleto en el armario - el aumento de lapenetración de Irán y el patrocinio de células durmientes de Hezbolá y el reclutamiento yihadista en la región - un tema planteado por el malogradoFiscal de la causa AMIA, Alberto Nisman ", comentó Samuels.
