In a letter to OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, Simon Wiesenthal Centre Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels and LatinAmerican Representative, Dr. Ariel Gelblung, drew attention to a 1 December report of 5 Syrians holding stolen Greek passports, arrested and then released in Honduras, claiming the United Statesas their final destination.

Apparently, these “asylum seekers” left Syria through Lebanon to Turkey via Brazil, Argentina and Costa Rica to Honduras where there is alarge Middle Eastern community.
Likewise, the 6 December arrest in Buenos Aires of 5 Syrians with Greek stolen passports. Sources point to their staying near a Jewish-ownedhotel that hosts many community celebrations.

Another Syrian, wanted by Interpol for alleged links to ISIS, was arrested in Paraguay with another stolen Greek passport, requesting refugein Argentina.
Two other Syrians were stopped on their way from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colonia, Uruguay. On 7 December, these led to a Turkish citizen,who reportedly heads a trafficking network of Syrians given stolen Greek documents, on their way to the United States through Argentina and Brazil.

Samuels added that «AMIA bombing investigating prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, had already pointed to mainly Hezbollah sleepers in 9 LatinAmerican countries, including Honduras and the Triple Frontier between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay…», continuing, «Argentina has been the main victim in the past and now seems, once again, tobe a focal point. We call on newly-elected President Macri to take urgent measures to contain this threat."

En una carta al Secretario General de la OEA, Luis Almagro, el Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal, Dr. ShimonSamuels y el Representante para América Latina, el Dr. Ariel Gelblung, llamaron la atención sobre un informe del 1* de diciembre sobre 5 sirios que detentaban pasaportes griegos robados, quienesfueron detenidos en Honduras y luego puestos en libertad, alegando los Estados Unidos como su destino final.

Al parecer, estos “solicitantes de asilo” abandonaron Siria a través de Líbano y Turquía, pasando luego a Brasil, Argentina y Costa Rica hastallegar a Honduras donde hay una gran comunidad de Oriente Medio.
Asimismo, el 6 de diciembre se produjo la detención en Buenos Aires de 5 sirios con pasaportes griegos robados en su poder. Fuentes señalanque se alojaban cerca de un hotel perteneciente a empresarios de origen judío, donde usualmente se llevan a cabo celebraciones de dicha comunidad.

Otro sirio, buscado por Interpol por presuntos vínculos con ISIS, fue detenido en Paraguay con otro pasaporte griego robado, quien declaróhaber solicitado refugio en Argentina.
Otros dos sirios fueron detenidos camino a Colonia, Uruguay procedentes desde Buenos Aires, Argentina. El 7 de diciembre, la investigación deeste hecho llevó a un ciudadano turco, sospechado de dirigir una red de tráfico de sirios hacia Estados Unidos, a través de Argentina y Brasil, a los que se les entrega documentos robados deorigen griego.

Gelblung hizo hincapié en que “no se trata de incidentes aislados, pues revelan un modus operandi bien planificado que se debe tomarseriamente por los gobiernos del hemisferio occidental “.
Samuels añadió que “Alberto Nisman, el fiscal que investigaba el atentado a la AMIA, ya había señalado la existencia de células durmientes deHezbollah en 9 países de América, entre ellos Honduras y la Triple Frontera entre Argentina, Brasil y Paraguay ... “, continuando, “Argentina ha sido la principal víctima en el pasado y ahora,una vez más, parece estar en la mira. Hacemos un llamado a el recién elegido presidente Macri para que adopte medidas urgentes para contener esta amenaza ".
Los funcionarios del Centro Wiesenthal hicieron un llamamiento a la OEA para que se convoque una reunión extraordinaria de sus 35 miembrospara combatir el surgimiento del terrorismo de Medio Oriente en las Américas.
