Wiesenthal Centre to President Uribe: “Colombia and Israel- Two Democracies Together Resist the Onslaught of World Terrorism”

Wiesenthal Center officials, Dr. Shimon Samuels (Directorfor International Relations) and Sergio Widder (Director for Latin America) launched the Spanish language edition of “Antisemitism: The Generic Hatred – Essays in Memory of Simon Wiesenthal” atthe 11th Meeting of Latin American and Caribbean Jewish Institutions and Communities. The award-winning collection, co-sponsored by the Centre with UNESCO, was presented to Colombian PresidentAlvaro Uribe, who had personally contributed its own thoughts to the volume. Samuels and Widder expressed the Centre’s abiding solidarity with Colombia in its struggle against Iranian-inspiredterrorism from across its borders. Samuels noted “the close relations between Colombia and Israel as two democracies on the frontline against international terrorism in their respective regions”.President Uribe congratulated the Center on its initiatives in defence of democracy and requested its future cooperation. The Center discussed with Presidential Secretary General, BernardoMoreno, modalities for Uribe to visit the Centre’s Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles to present, from its podium, his views of risks and dangers to the Americas.
