Israeli Heroine & Wiesenthal Center Medal of Valor Recipient Remembered

The Simon Wiesenthal Center mourns the loss of Israeli heroine Shulamit “Shula” Cohen-Kishik who died at 100 in Jerusalem.

Cohen-Kishik, whose code name was, “The Pearl” was a spy for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and worked undercover in Lebanon for 14 years. Prior to becoming a Mossad agent in the early 1950's, Cohenwas a mother of seven who lived in Beirut, Lebanon. In the 1940's, she was responsible for smuggling countless Jewish refugees into Palestine, even sending her own children tosafety in Israel to grow up without her.

"Shulamith Cohen-Kishik was a legitimate heroine of Israel. Her extraordinary courage and remarkable humility will long be remembered," said Rabbi Meyer, H. May,Simon Wiesenthal Center Executive Director.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center awarded Cohen-Kishik with its Medal of Valor at a ceremony in Los Angeles in 2001.
