Simon Wiesenthal Center to Chancellor Merkel: Violent calls on German Streets 'Jews to the Gas' Defile Memory of the Shoah, makes Mockery of Anti-Nazi Laws

Senior officials of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish Human Rights NGO, are urging German Chancellor Angela Merkelto take whatever measures necessary to hold violent anti-Israel/anti-Semitic protesters accountable for their hateful actions.

"It is intolerable that chants of, 'Jews to the gas chambers', attacks againstsynagogues and calls by an Imam to exterminate Jews could go unpunished by German authorities," charged Rabbi Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Dean and Founder and Associate Deanof the Center dedicated to learning the lessons of the World War II Nazi Genocide.

"We further urge federal, state and local authorities to ensure that this Friday's Al Quds Day marches do not threaten orimpede the rights of German Jews and note, with disgust, the coming together of young Germans from the extreme right Neo Nazis and extreme left Marxists who are united in theirhate for the Jewish State.

"We ask — where is the sense of outrage and shame on the part of the German establishment when scenes of such viciousanti-Jewish actions stain the streets of their country?

"It is long overdo for German authorities to hold Muslim preachers accountable for stoking the flames of genocidal Jew-hatred.If that means additional legislation is needed to deal with the history's oldest hate, we hope that German political parties will unite and act quickly to enact such laws,” Centerofficials concluded.
