Simon Wiesenthal Center To OAS: Declare Hamas A Terrorist Organization And Bar Their Entry From Latin America; EUTo Bar Hamas From Parliamentary Meeting
At the Organization of American States’ American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) meeting today in Bogotá, Colombia, theSimon Wiesenthal Center urged the Western Hemisphere’s leading body to: confirm Hamas as a terrorist organization and, bar any of their representatives from the Americas.
“We expect that through theCICTE, the OAS member states will declare Hamas a terrorist group, as the European Union has already done,” said Sergio Widder, the Center’s Latin American representative. “Further, we haveasked that all members of Hamas be banned from the region, especially in Latin America, where there are those who are ready to welcome them with open arms.”
“Hamas is an avowed terrorist organization that dispatches suicide bombers against civilian targets and openly calls for the destruction of the State of Israel,” Widder continued. “At itscore, Hamas’ charter is openly antisemitic and states that there is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad.”

Last month, the Wiesenthal Center urged the governments of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela to bar a delegation of Hamas leaders, that Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangell saidwas planning to tour Latin America.
In a related development, European Parliament President, Josep Borrell Fontelles, assured the Wiesenthal Center that Hamas, which appears on the EU's blacklist of terrorist organizations, not be received at the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly meeting on March 26th- 27th, in Brussels. This came about in response to a protest by the Center's Director for InternationalRelations, Dr. Shimon Samuels.

EL CENTRO WIESENTHAL RECLAMA QUE LA OEA DECLARE A HAMAS COMO ORGANIZACION TERRORISTA Y RECHACE EL INGRESO DE SUS MIEMBROS A LOS PAISES DEL CONTINENTE AMERICANO
El Centro Simon Wiesenthal reclamó que los países del continente americano impidan el ingreso a sus territorios de delegados delgrupo terrorista Hamas.
La petición fue transmitida al Secretario Ejecutivo del Comité Interamericano contra el Terrorismo (CICTE) de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA), Steven Monblatt, en el marco del sextoperíodo de sesiones del CICTE que se está desarrollando en Bogotá hasta el 24 de marzo próximo y en el cual el Centro Wiesenthal participa como observador.
“Esperamos que a través del CICTE los países miembros de la OEA definan a Hamas como una organización terrorista, tal como lo ha hecho la Unión Europea. Hemos reclamado que se impida el ingresode miembros de ese grupo a la región, especialmente en América Latina, desde donde se escucharon voces dispuestas a darles la bienvenida”, señaló Sergio Widder (Representante para América Latinadel Centro Wiesenthal), quien participa como delegado en la reunión de CICTE.
Adicionalmente, en una carta a Steven Monblatt, Shimon Samuels (Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal) solicitó que la OEA “investigue los lazos de Hamas con elcrimen organizado en la región; que se indague acerca del posible desvío de fondos recaudados en territorio americano bajo la apariencia de campañas de beneficencia que en realidad se dirigen afinanciar el terrorismo global; que se alerte a los estados miembros de la OEA para que prevengan el reclutamiento y entrenamiento de ciudadanos de las Américas para la causa de la jihad; y quese promueva el procesamiento de aquellas personas que estuvieran involucradas en actividades de incitación, financiamiento, provisión de armamentos y explosivos, entrenamiento, provean coberturaa terroristas, o que justifiquen actos de terrorismo, en el continente americano”. Estas propuestas constituyen una continuidad de lo realizado por el Centro durante la IV Cumbre de las Américas(Mar del Plata, noviembre de 2005).
