US Ambassador To SWC: Flyers Demanding Jews Register Property "Clearly Part of General Effort to Sow Fear Among Ukrainian Jews"

Unclear who is behind the anti-Semitic action

Geoffrey Pyatt, the US Ambassador in Kiev, Ukraine (pictured) has told a senior official of the Simon Wiesenthal Center that flyers demanding members of the Jewish community in the Eastern Ukrainian city ofDonetsk, register and list their property or else face deportation and revocation of citizenship was, "Clearly part of a general effort to sow fear among Ukrainian Jews." The ambassadorhastened to add in his emailed response to Mark Weitzman, Director of Government Affairs of the leading Jewish human rights group, “We don't know who," was behind the action.

"The Wiesenthal Center denounces this grotesque action that is clearly designed to spread more fear among the Jewish community,already reeling from the increased instability that has racked the region for the past few months, "said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper in a statement released in Los Angeles. “Weurge authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Jewish communal institutions," they concluded.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families inthe United States. It is an NGO at international agencies including the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, the Council of Europe and the Latin American Parliament(Parlatino).
