Wiesenthal Center Applauds New Indictment by Special Argentine AMIA Bombing Prosecutor

The Simon Wiesenthal Center applauded a new indictment issued by the AMIA Investigation Unit Chief Prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, who ordered the confiscation of $ 1,000,000 (onemillion dollars) from bank accounts belonging to Hezbollah and to former Iranian officials, including former President Hashemi Rafsanjani and ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs AliAkbar Velayati.

The indictment is based on the civil claim initiated by one of the victims injured during the 1994 attack and whose identity remains confidential (seehttp://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=fwLYKnN8LzH&b=4423615&ct=3352753). The indictment states in part that the bombing “had structural support from theIranian State as well as from the Lebanese group Hizbullah for its organization, financing and operation.”

“This new indictment by Prosecutor Nisman strengthens the fight for justice for the victims of the AMIA bombing. We call on the international community to support this legal efforton behalf of innocent victims of terror as well for the strengthening of mechanisms to prevent the financing of terrorism,” said Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for InternationalRelations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“Our Center applauds this measure, and stands in solidarity with someone who has bravely initiated a civil claim against the terrorists and the senior Iranian government officialsinvolved in this heinous crime. El Centro Wiesenthal apoya un dictamen argentino para embargar cuentas bancarias de Hezbollah y de ex – funcionarios iraníes implicados en el atentado terrorista contra laAMIA

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal manifestó su apoyo a un nuevo dictamen emitido por el titular de Unidad de Investigación del atentado contra la AMIA, el fiscal Alberto Nisman, a travésdel cual solicita el embargo de cuentas bancarias del grupo terrorista Hezbollah y de ex – funcionarios del gobierno de Irán, incluyendo al ex presidente Hashemi Rafsanjani y al excanciller Ali Akbar Velayati, hasta un monto de US$ 1.000.000 (un millón de dólares).

El dictamen del fiscal Nisman acompaña el reclamo iniciado por un damnificado por el atentado terrorista de 1994, cuya identidad se mantiene en reserva (verhttp://www.wiesenthal.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=fwLYKnN8LzH&b=4423615&ct=3352753), y sostiene que el atentado “gozó del soporte estructural para su organización,financiamiento y ejecución del aparato estatal iraní, así como de la organización libanesa Hezbollah”.
