The Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned the attacks on the Argentine Zionist Union
of Rosario – USAR, a Jewish Community and Sports Center located in the city of Rosario (200 miles North of Buenos Aires). Assaults included offensive graffiti reading “F… Jew” andvandalism against the local Jewish cemetery (see photo).
“It is particularly disturbing that these attacks take place in the Province which hosted the first Jewish settlement in Argentina, Moises Ville. Indeed, Rosario later became the home for many ofthe descendants of those Baron Hirsch settlement pioneers. Prompt investigation and prosecution by the regional government is crucial”, stated Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director for InternationalRelations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
“We have contacted leaders of USAR and the Jewish community of Rosario to express our solidarity with them. We add our voice to the call for reinforcement of preventive measures… installation ofsurveillance CCTV around the perimeter of the cemetery must be provided by the Provincial authorities”, added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.

El Centro Wiesenthal condena ataques antisemitas en Rosario – Acompaña los reclamos de la comunidad local a las autoridades de la Provincia de Santa Fe
Buenos Aires, 12 de marzo de 2015
El Centro Simon Wiesenthal condenó los ataques contra la Unión Sionista Argentina de Rosario (USAR), en cuya fachada se pintaron grafitis antisemitas, y las acciones de vandalismo contra elcementerio judío de esa ciudad (ver fotos adjuntas).
“Es particularmente perturbador que este tipo de agresiones tengan lugar en la misma provincia que cobijó el primer asentamiento judío en Argentina, Moises Ville. Precisamente, con el correr deltiempo Rosario pasó a ser un lugar donde se instalaron muchos de los descendientes de aquellos pioneros de los asentamientos del Barón Hirsch. Es crucial que el gobierno provincial lleve adelanteuna investigación y accione contra los responsables”, señaló el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro Simon Wiesenthal.
“Nos hemos puesto en contacto con autoridades de USAR y de la comunidad judía de Rosario para manifestar nuestra solidaridad con ellos. Sumamos nuestra voz al reclamo para que las autoridades deSanta Fe adopten medidas de prevención; entre otras, sería importante la instalación de cámaras de seguridad en el perímetro del cementerio”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latinadel Centro.
