Wiesenthal Center Joins Protest Against Issue of Commemorative Coin by Polish National Bank to Honor Murderer of Jews and Other Civilians in and After World War II

Jerusalem - The Simon Wiesenthal Center today added its support for protests in Poland to prevent the planned issueby the Polish National Bank on March 15 of a commemorative silver coin to honor Jozef Kuras, a leading figure in the postwar anti-Communist underground, who is accused by important Polishscholars, such as Jan Gross, of murdering Jews and other civilians during and after World War II.

According to the Center’s Director for Eastern European Affairs, Holocaust historian Dr. Efraim Zuroff, in recent years, Poland’sright-wing government “has been particularly guilty of rampant Holocaust distortion, and the recent decision of the National Bank is yet another example.”
