The Simon Wiesenthal Center expressed outrage at the Argentine – Iranian decision to, reportedly create a so-called “Truth Commission”to resolve the 1994 terrorist attack against the AMIA Jewish Center in Buenos Aires, which resulted in 85 people killed and hundreds injured.

The announcement was made by Argentine President Cristina Kirchner (pictured), who called it “historic”, via her twitter account. Theagreement was signed by Argentine and Iranian Foreign Ministers, Hector Timerman and Ali Akbar Salehi, in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.

According to official sources, this Commission will be composed of five “independent members”, plus two selected by Buenos Aires andTehran respectively, to analyze data submitted by Argentina and Iran, and then issue a report with recommendations to both parties. A joint panel of both government officials in Tehranwould then interrogate the suspects sought by INTERPOL. The agreement would be submitted to each country’s legislature for ratification. INTERPOL authorities would be keptinformed.

“This result of negotiations leaked almost two years ago amid media speculation of a commercial deal, flies in the face of Argentineannual demands from the UN podium for extradition of the Iranian accomplices to murder for trial in Buenos Aires… The Addis Abeba agreement will do for Iran what Munich 1938 did for NaziGermany: whet the appetite of another mass murderer for further terror and, this time, nuclear genocide… This deal is a whitewash for terrorism,” argued Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director forInternational Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

“How is it possible to reach an understanding to solve the case with those who have denied any involvement in the bombing? Whose legalstandards are going to prevail? What level of trust can anyone have in a totalitarian regime that has no respect for human rights? Our Center will always stand in solidarity with thefamilies of the victims and continue to fight for truth and justice,” added Sergio Widder, the Center’s Director for Latin America.

“De manera irónica, este acuerdo se firmó y se promulgó un 27 de enero, el Día de Conmemoración del Holocausto establecido por lasNaciones Unidas – una atrocidad que ha sido reiteradamente negada por el presidente iraní. Argentina, a un mismo tiempo, rinde un tributo a la memoria de 6.000.000 de judíos asesinados porlos nazis y anuncia un acuerdo con sus herederos ideológicos iraníes, quienes anhelan perpetrar un nuevo Holocausto contra los judíos en el presente”

El Centro Simon Wiesenthal manifestó su indignación debido al acuerdo firmado por Argentina e Irán para, según lo anunciado, crear unaasí llamada “Comisión de la Verdad” para resolver el caso del ataque terrorista de 1994 contra la AMIA, que provocó la muerte de 85 personas y centenares de heridos.
El anuncio fue realizado por la presidenta argentina Cristina Kirchner a través de su cuenta de twitter. El acuerdo, considerado como“histórico”, por la Jefa de Estado, fue firmado por los Cancilleres argentino e iraní, Héctor Timerman y Ali Akbar Salehi, en Addis Abeba, Etiopía.

Según la información oficial, la Comisión constará de cinco miembros independientes, más otros dos, cada uno designado por Buenos Airesy Teherán, quienes analizarán la información provista por Argentina e Irán, y luego emitirá un informe con recomendaciones para ambas partes. Un grupo de funcionarios argentinos e iraníesinterrogarán en Teherán a los sospechosos buscados por INTERPOL. El acuerdo será enviado a organismos nacionales tales como Congresos, para su ratificación. Lo acordado será informado aINTERPOL.

“Este resultado de negociaciones filtradas hace casi dos años en medio de especulaciones en la prensa acerca de un acuerdo comercial,contraría los reclamos que cada año ha formulado Argentina desde el podio de las Naciones Unidas para obtener la extradición de los iraníes señalados como cómplices de asesinato para serjuzgados en Buenos Aires. El acuerdo de Addis Abeba significará para Irán lo que Munich 1938 significó para la Alemania nazi: abrirá el apetito para otro crimen masivo, para más terror y,en estos tiempos, un genocidio nuclear. Este acuerdo representa un encubrimiento para el terrorismo”, sostuvo el Dr. Shimon Samuels, Director de Relaciones Internacionales del Centro SimonWiesenthal.

“¿Cómo es posible llegar a un entendimiento para resolver el caso con quienes ya han negado cualquier tipo de involucramiento en elmismo? ¿Qué estándares legales prevalecerán? ¿Qué grado de confianza se puede tener en un régimen totalitario que no respeta los derechos humanos? Nuestro Centro será siempre solidario conlas familias de las víctimas y continuará reclamando para llegar a la verdad y que se haga justicia”, agregó Sergio Widder, Director para América Latina del Centro.
